But now a young Mount Isa boy is the first junior hockey player to represent Queensland in over 30 years.
Brock Philip recently returned from competing at the Under 13s Australian Hockey Carnival in Hobart where his team, Queensland Cutters, finished fourth overall out of 12 teams.
After a strong performance at the carnival, Brock has now been added to the 2020 Under 15s Queensland Squad.
Brock's rise to the top however didn't happen overnight.
In 2016 he represented the school boys Presidents team.
The following year he was named as a rising star at the Queensland State Championships.
In 2018 he shadowed for the Queensland boys team.
Brock's determination to never give up had been a part of his success.
"Missing out on the Queensland school boys side motivated me to train hard in the off-season to make the team this year," Brock said.
