A Mount Isa jockey has been suspended for a week for careless riding at Mount Isa Race Club on Saturday (October 26).
Ray Hancock pleaded guilty to one charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that during race two when approaching the 1250m he permitted his horse, Dutch Twist, to shift in whilst improving when insufficiently clear of Snippy Strategic ridden by Jason Babarovich.
Snippy Strategic was over-racing at the time, resulting in that gelding having to be checked and lose its rightful running.
Racing Queensland stewards report stated that Hancock's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of seven days.
"Commencing at midnight Saturday 26th October up to and including Saturday 2nd November," the report said.
"In assessing penalty stewards took into account Jockey Hancock's guilty plea, his forthright evidence, his good record in relation to the rule, and the racing manners of Snippy Strategic.
"Jockey Hancock was advised of his right of Internal Review."
