Carpentaria Shire Council has implemented its own restrictions on travel and meetings in the shire in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Gulf shire council, which covers Normanton and Karumba said Council will not be accepting any new bookings for council owned facilities and will be imposing a restriction of 35 people to all current bookings in place.
"All council managed facilities including the customer service, Gymnasium, Pool, Sports Centre and information centres will remain open at this time but capacity within each of the facilities will be kept to a maximum of 35 people," Council said in a statement.
"Staff will be monitoring numbers within these facilities. Hand sanitiser will be put at each of the entrances of these facilities and people will be required to sanitise on entry and exit of the facilities. Council will also require all persons to sign an attendance register on entry and exits."
The Shire said all council run community events or events held at Council facilities with an anticipated capacity over 35 are now cancelled until further notice, including ANZAC day.

Council said the Electoral Commission Queensland told them the local government election scheduled for March 28 will go ahead as planned.
"The Electoral Commission have put several measures in place aimed to reduce Coronavirus during the election, which can be found on their website," they said.
"We encourage all residents to stay up to date with updates from the Local Disaster Management Group via council's disaster management dashboard www.disaster.carpentaria.qld.gov.au.
Council said at this stage roads and airports will remain open.
Their restrictions are not as tough as neighbouring Burke Shire which banned all non-essential visitors and meetings of more than 10 people.
