With just nine new cases overnight Sunday's relatively low rate of increase in COVID-19 cases in Queensland is welcome but also reinforces the need to maintain social distancing to contain the spread.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said there was a long way to go but only nine new cases was good news.
"It goes to show that all of the measures that we've been putting in place over the last weeks are having an impact, and we need to make sure that we continue," Ms Palaszczuk said.
"Sadly though, a fifth Queenslander has died, reminding us again of the seriousness."

There remains no cases in north-west, west and south-west Queensland.
Meanwhile the Premier applauded Queensland manufacturers who are diversifying to supply face masks, hand sanitiser and other urgently needed supplies.
"On the other hand, it's disappointing that people have been crowding at open air markets (in Brisbane)," she said.
The Premier said she would shut down the markets if people didn't respect the rules.
