Sometime around 9.30pm on Thursday two people wearing hoodies and armed with sticks demanded money from staff at the Irish Club's bottle shop and fled on foot with the cash register.
Initial reports were that no one was injured however Mount Isa Irish Club manager Bernard Gillic said he understood that the young woman on the cash register was assaulted.
Mr Gillic said he had little information as yet as police asked staff to keep away from the crime scene so their prints would not interfere with their investigation.
He said those on the scene were questioned about the incident until well after midnight.
Police are examining CCTV footage.
Much of the club has been closed due to the pandemic though the bottle shop has remained open throughout.
