Local-owned Yagurli Tours is now offering balloon rides to soar above the saltpans in the early morning Gulf of Carpentaria light.
Operated by the traditional owners, the Gangalidda and Garawa Peoples, "yagurli" means fish in the local language and up to now they have primarily offered fishing tours, but now they are expanding from the sea to the air.
The idea educate tourists about the landscape and the traditional culture during the experience and the price will be similar to fishing charters.
They conducted trial balloon flights with NSW-based ballooning company Balloon Aloft and Yagurli Tours tourism operations manager Peter Ridley told the ABC the trial was a success.
With the morning glory season already started and the unusual cloud spotted on nearby Sweers Island, Yagurli hope to capitalise on the interest.
As well as traditional dawn flights, Yagurli also plan to do afternoon flights which normally aren't possible in Australia.
"The wind dies down in the afternoon and, because of the flat landscape of a saltpan, you have smooth landing capability," Mr Ridley told the ABC.
Yagurli Tours also do fishing, cultural and stargazing tours.
They can be contacted via the Burketown Visitor Information Centre on 07 4745 5111.
