At this Wednesday's meeting Mount Isa City Council will consider a proposal from the International Legends of League to again host the Australian Legends of League rugby league games in Mount Isa in March 2021.
Over 6000 people crammed Alec Inch Oval in May 2019 for the first such game which featured legends of the game such as Scotty Prince, Matt Bowen, Chris Walker, John Hopoate and Willie Tonga others as well as cameo performances from Robbie Katter and Cr Mick Tully.
Now a motion in front of council tomorrow says that after the success of the 2019 Mount Isa event. International Legends of League are seeking financial support from Council toward the March 2021 event.
The council officer's recommendation ahead of the meeting is that Council approve "in-principle support" of the International Legends of League's proposed 2021 event and that they should authorise the CEO to negotiate and finalise the details of the event, including costs, conditional to provision at the midyear budget review.
Meanwhile items discussed in closed business in the last meeting of council included endorsing awarding the expression of interest to provide Junior Learn To Swim, Squad Training and Aqua Aerobics at Splashez Aquatic Centre to Miss Julie's Mobile Swim School for the following period of operation: Season 1: September 2020 - May 2021 Season 2: September 2021 - May 2022 (optional) Season 3: September 2022 - May 2023 (optional).
Other items included retaining the legal services of King and Company to represent the council in legal matters for another 12 months, awarding the contract of the Outback at Isa Tourist Precinct Master Plan to Stafford Strategy for $98,847, and awarding the contract for the required drilling of five groundwater monitoring bores and associated works to Norrie Drilling for $77,652,
