Save the Children's Sudesh Somu said he would be delivering an Anti Bullying Program called AMAYDA (Australia Martial Arts Youth Development Alliance) in Mount Isa at the Derrick's Boxing gym.
Mr Somu said AMAYDA Bullying prevention program uses conflict management strategies to develop young peoples resilience to deal with high risk, threats, mitigation strategies and environmental awareness.
"This is a martial arts self defence program, we are not teaching the kids to fight, Mr Somu said.
"The mission of this program is to target bullying, by providing young people the bullying prevention training program delivered by highly trained mentors to empower and develop confidence, resilience and respectful children."
Mr Somu heard about the program from meeting its ambassador boxer Jeff Horn in a Brisbane gym.
When he moved to Mount Isa six months ago he had the opportunity to express his interest to the young people and their parents about delivering the program at the Derrick's boxing gym.
"The parents showed a very respectful level of interest to get their children involved and participate in this program," he said.
"It has been a long time coming, me and Kerry and James Derrick have been discussing on running a program that would benefit youth," he said.
Mr Somu and the Derricks contacted Frank Mechler, CEO of the AMAYDA program who supported them to run the program in Mount Isa.
The program will be free but participants need to join Derrick's Gym.
It is likely the program will begin in the school term after Easter and Derrick's Boxing is seeking sponsorship from local business.
If interested in taking part or providing sponsorship contact Derrick's Boxing on Facebook.
