It was worth the wait as the action was packed inside with plenty to choose from all ends of the Showgrounds including dinosaurs, motorcycle action, bronco branding, the Night of the Horse show, Dogwood Dags galore and a truly amazing Lego collection from local man Phillip Kemp.
After William Blakeley read out Welcome to Country in Kalkatunga language and a performance from the Sundowner Dancers, Mayor Danielle Slade formally opened the show with good news ahead of the Show's 40th anniversary in 2022.
Cr Slade said Council had approved the construction of a poultry pavilion shed and new ablutions facility.
The item discussed in closed business at Council's May meeting was funded by a $1,161,816 federal grant under the COVID-19 Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program with an additional Council contribution of $138,184 with work to be done in the new financial year.
"The shed will host poultry in future shows, which is what has been missing and Council has committed to more shade and more showers, which will benefit the Show and future events," Cr Slade said.
Show president Anne Pittis thanked her committee and volunteers as well as major sponsors Glencore and Mount Isa City Council.
