Changes include photo identification may be required for people wishing to purchase those items and sales will be limited to a maximum of 4.5 litres a person a day, and will only be on sale from 2pm to 9pm daily.
The new rules will also mean people buying takeaway cask, flagon or fortified wines must physically exit their vehicle and enter the bottle shop.
Acting Inspector Sean Wade of Mount Isa police said the local police division asked the Liquor Accord to implement the new rules because consumption of these products was causing a lot of harm to individuals, an extra work load on local emergency services and a detriment to Mount Isa's CBD.
"We put together conditions that are not too dissimilar to conditions throughout the Northern Territory which have faced similar problems to Mount Isa," A/Insp Wade said.
"The Accord have agreed on a number of changes they will put in place in each of their licenced premises serving takeaway."
A/Insp Wade said the provision of photo id was deliberately stated as "may be required".
"We don't want to impinge on relationships that have been built in the liquor industry, if say you are well known to a licencee."
A/Insp Wade said people must walk into the store to make their flagon, cask or fortified wines purchase to ensure that the employee is not serving unduly intoxicated people.
"We've identified these types of alcohol are doing considerable harm to people who live and travel to Mount Isa and if we can reduce their consumption and thereby have them make better life choices and improve their health, we're on a good thing."
The new rules will be trialled for six months.
