Designer jewellery store worker charged with pocketing luxury items

A complaint was sent to the Australian Federal Police by the store alleging their employee had been stealing and an investigation began on January 9.

"This woman allegedly abused her position within the airport terminal for personal gain," AFP detective superintendent Morgen Blunden said.

Police searched the 39-year-old woman's home in Kingsgrove, Sydney and allegedly found 15 stolen items including a man's pendant, a wallet, a pair of earrings, four bracelets and three pens.

A visitors pass to Sydney Airport, an Australian passport and two devices were seized as the investigation continues.

The 39-year-old, charged with larceny by a clerk or servant, faces a maximum penalty of ten years in prison.

She is expected to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on January 25.

Sydney Airport head of security Graham White said crimes, particularly those committed inside the Sydney Airport precinct, would not be tolerated.

"We'd like to thank the AFP for their commitment to resolving this matter swiftly and our airport operations team and retail tenant for their collaborative efforts which contributed to the positive outcome," he said.
