Statistics released by QAL showed the regional airport's passenger count grew by 13.2 percent last year.
Figures from December alone were up 10 percent in comparison to 2011.
QAL managing director Dennis Chant said was a result of more airlines servicing the North West.
"It has (the increase) been driven by the extra capacity of the airlines," he said.
"Virgin flights to Mount Isa started in August and they were at full capacity by September." "They've now got a daily service that is now at full capacity most of the time."
QAL owns and operates Gold Coast, Townsville, Mount Isa and Longreach Airports.
Mount Isa Airport also rated as one of the most reliable airports in 2012, with the highest percentage of flights arriving and departing on time.
A new manager will take over operations at the Mount Isa airport soon but Mr Chant was tight-lipped on their identity. He said the successful candidate for the role would be announced in the coming days.
