Jason Braid, 46, was involved in an incident underground at the Glencore-operated mine in Cloncurry on February 1.
The Cairns-based FIFO worker died almost two weeks later.
Ernest Henry Mining (EHM) officials confirmed Mr Braid was expected to make a full recovery after the incident.
The EHM spokesperson confirmed he did not have life-threatening injuries when he was transferred to Cairns to be closer to his family as he underwent rehabilitation.
It is understood he died suddenly in the Cairns Base Hospital after a blood clot formed.
EHM officials could not confirm if he died as a result of the injuries suffered in the mining incident.
In a statement on Monday, EHM officials confirmed Mr Braid’s death.
“A valued member of the Ernest Henry Mining team, Mr Jason Braid, aged 46, suddenly passed away Friday afternoon at the Cairns Base Hospital,” the statement read.
“Jason held the position of underground operator at Ernest Henry Mine for the last three years.”
"Jason was involved in an incident underground on 1 February and an investigation into this incident has commenced."

Mike Westerman, chief operating officer, North Queensland Copper Assets, Glencore, said it was a tough time and counselling was being provided to Mr Braid’s colleagues.
“We are deeply saddened by this loss and our deepest thoughts and sympathies go out to his family, friends and colleagues,” Mr Westerman said.
An internal investigation will be conducted by EHM, along with an investigation by the Department of Natural Resources and Mines.
The sad news comes after news of the death of a contractor at a mine site early Monday.
Anglo American says it's too soon to say if systemic safety issues played a role in the death of a contractor killed by an exploding tyre at one of its central Queensland coal mines.
A tyre on a large mining truck exploded at the Dawson coal mine, in the Bowen Basin, early on Monday killing one contractor and leaving a second seriously injured.
It's the third fatality at an Anglo American mine site in Queensland in less than a year.
