Mount Isa Inspector Kelly Harvey is leading the investigation of what has been called a crime scene by police.
The caravan was parked at the front of a house, which was also damaged in the explosion.
“Three people are missing ... it would appear now these three people are deceased,” Superintendent Russell Miller said.
Inspector Harvey said State Homicide Squad members would travel to Mount Isa from Brisbane on Wednesday to join Townsville-based investigators.
Investigators will compile a report to the Northern Queensland Coroner and were seeking as much information from the community as possible.
“We have spoken to a lady that resides at that address. She is seeking assistance at this moment,” Inspector Harvey said.
“If anyone in the community has any information, please get in contact with Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 because the more information we have the more it will assist in our investigation.”
She also asked people publishing comments on social media to be aware these could be upsetting for family and friends of those believed to have died.
