The good people at Bunnings spent Saturday morning supporting our local volunteer and emergency services with a barbecue at the Mount Isa store.
Nationwide, Bunnings stores were holding barbecues in aid of emergency services. The Mount Isa Bunnings team generously supplied food and drinks, with all money raised going directly to the volunteer emergency services in Mount Isa.
There was a strong attendance by members from several emergency services across Mount Isa, including; the Rural Fire Brigade, and State Emergency Services (SES).
A Bunnings spokesperson said they were proud to thank the volunteer emergency services for the great work they do within our community.
“We enjoying raising much needed funds for them as all emergency services are a valued part of our community,” the spokesperson said.
Mount Isa State Emergency Service Area Controller, Gordon Graham, thanked Bunnings for their assistance.
“The Bunnings emergency services BBQ will assist in promoting SES membership and community awareness of the role of the SES in times of an emergency,” Mr Graham said.
“All funds will support the training of staff and assist with the maintenance and purchase of much needed equipment.”
Senior Sergeant Neil King, Acting Officer in Charge, Mount Isa Police Station said members of the State Emergency Service perform an important function within our community.
“We are always happy to volunteer our time in support of these volunteers who have an important role within our community during an emergency,” Sr Srg King said.
Deputy Local Controller for SES, David Muston, was pleased to report we have had a slow season for emergencies in the North West.
“This year has been very quiet for storm season, we haven’t had the monsoon come down yet, but we are expecting that very soon,” Mr Muston said.
“Today is all about the message of being prepared. If we do get that rain, make sure our gutters are clean, debris is picked up in our yards.
“We do get some violent storms out here; winds over 100km an hour, so taking all that loose stuff and storing it away for the season is really important,” he said.
