At its opening market for 2018 on Sunday the Markets committee donated $4000 to the Mount Isa Hospital Children’s ward raised by stallholders over the year last year clocking the total number of donations to local charities over the $22,000 over the life of the markets.
Community markets president Vicky Winter said the donation came out of the stallholders’ fees for the year.
“All the money goes into a fund and everyone votes at the end of the year to see which Mount Isa-based charity it goes to,” Ms Winter said.
Sue Ryan from the Hospital Paediatric Unit said this year’s donation was fantastic.
“This will go towards education material for children who are long term patients and who don't have the luxury of a teacher,” Ms Ryan said.
The markets are on at the Overlander Hotel, each first and third Sunday of the month, from 10am-2pm.
