During the first week of the July school holidays Ms Gillett will travel to the James Cook University in Townsville.
Ms Gillett was born and raised in Mount Isa, her heritage forms partly from the Gangalidda-Garawa and Waanyi Tribes.
“I would like to be a teacher or early childhood educator because I know the importance of having Indigenous people teaching and being role models for students within an area like Mount Isa,” Ms Gillett said.
During her stay, she will have the opportunity to experience university life by living on campus, taking part in academic lectures and team building activities.
This program will allow her to meet campus staff and form bonds with other Year 10, 11 and 12 students looking at attending the university in the future.
