Reynolds was there alongside his Erebus Motorsport Holden ZB which was displayed at the Mount Isa dealership for a week between engagements in Darwin and Townsville.
Reynolds talked to fans and posed for photos with the three trophies his team won in Darwin as well as the mighty Bathurst Peter Brock Trophy Reynolds took out in 2017 with co-driver Luke Youlden.
Reynolds and Erebus CEO Barry Ryan were due in from Melbourne Friday night but were delayed until Saturday lunch due to fog at southern airports.
But it was all smiles when he finally made it to Mount Isa being on a roll from his Darwin victory.
“Every time we come up to the track we’re getting better and better,” Reynolds said.
“We’ve had one bad round out of seven, which was at Winton, but otherwise we’ve always been in the top five for the weekend.”
Reynolds put his improvement this year down to good team work.
“Everyone thinks I’m driving differently but I’m not really,” he said.
“The 22 staff we have behind the scenes are working hard to make the car as fast as possible and we do everything whether it be working on pit stops, procedures, everything you do goes towards that.”
There was one team member Reynolds singled out – engineer Alistair McVean who joined the team in 2016.
“Al is super-brilliant, really clever and I couldn’t do it without him,” he said.
Reynolds said his Bathurst victory was a “trip and a half”.
“It’s one of the coolest things you can ever do in racing, the biggest race of the year and the way we won and the day it was, it was magical,” he said.
Reynolds said he was now set for the street circuit at the Watpac Townsville 400 this weekend (July 6-8).
“I love Townsville, it’s one of my favourite tracks, I love the layout, it’s an unbelievable street circuit, the crowd is really good and the last couple of years I’ve been really happy so I’ve got confidence going there,” he said.
“Obviously the performance we put on at Darwin holds us in good stead and I’m really looking forward to it – hopefully we can win some more races.”
