Parkrun organiser Denis Imhof said to celebrate they were having a theme of bright and loud.
“So wear your loudest outfit and join in the fun,” he said.
It’s been a year of great achievements for Cloncurry’s parkrun.
“Our launch was on Saturday October 28, 2017,” Denis said.
“And since then we have only had to cancel three of our Saturdays due to wet weather.”
He said that over this time, they had averaged between 16 and 20 walkers and runners each week.
“It has been very encouraging seeing new parkrunners coming down to join us who have never heard or know of the parkrun concept,” he said.
He said parkrun had benefited the Cloncurry community by providing a regular weekly activity open to all abilities.
“We have experienced tourists who purposefully stay here Friday night to do the parkrun on Saturday morning,” he said.
“If you haven’t experienced parkrun yet, I encourage everyone to register and head down to the park for the weekend.”
In Cloncurry’s 48 parkruns, Emily Morden has been the fastest woman in 21.12 (July 21) while Tony Pfaff is the fastest man in 18.10 (September 15). The age graded record holder is Terence Cokeley at 80.35 % in a time of 22:13 on July 7.
Regardless of your time, Denis said it was a great way to get involved with your community and exercise at the same time.
And this week there is an added incentive to join in.
“This weekend we will have fruit platters and cake to help us celebrate,” he said.
Cloncurry’s parkrun is held at Mary K Park at 7am every Saturday and is run entirely on gravel paths.
Parkrun is a weekly 5km timed run or walk and is suitable for people of all ages and abilities.
It is a free event but you do need to register in advance with parkrun Australia at www.parkrun/register.
There you can register Cloncurry as your home parkrun and you will get your unique barcode, which you need to print off and bring on the day.
Barcodes are not accepted on phones. You must print it off to have a time registered.
Some other handy items to bring are a hat and water bottle.
