Brandee Ferguson was nominated on behalf of Cloncurry Shire for the Junior Sportsperson Category at the North Queensland Sportstar Awards this month.
The young athlete holds a host of special sporting achievements such as competing at International Finals Youth Rodeo where she qualified in second place to attend an event to be held in Arlington, Texas next February 2019 and the Youth Rodeo Finals in Edna Texas where she qualified in five of the events.
It has certainly been a massive year for the Cloncurry teenager who was also selected as one of the Queens Baton Bearers for the Commonwealth Games Relay and won the Australia Day Junior Sportsperson award.
Nationally she has succeeded in qualifying in the top 10 at the Australian Professional Rodeo Association Junior Finals held in Emerald in June, she was in the National top three awards in the barrel racing event in Capella and qualified in the top 15 in both the junior events and in two open events as well.
Proud mum, Kylee Ferguson, who also attended the prestigious event, said the award Brandee won at the NQ Sportstar Awards was for Sporting Excellence.
“It was an award judged over the whole five categories presented, so we were very excited and surprised for her,” Mrs Ferguson said.
“I believe it was her international achievements that helped her achieve the award - particularly being the first ever Australian to qualify for the RFDTV Junior All American title next year.”
Brandee echoed her mother’s sentiments saying she felt excited and proud coming from a little outback town like Cloncurry to be recognised for this award.
“I have been able to represent my community and have it recognised among all these other great sport stars, World Champions and Olympic medalists,” Brandee said.
The Ferguson family have always been very supportive in their children’s sporting achievements.
“My Dad and little brother were also able to attend due to a change in my Dad’s work commitments and my Aunty and her husband came from Cairns, so it was nice to have so many family there to support me,” she said.
