Australia Day award nominations can now be made to councils across North West Queensland for categories ranging from citizen, young citizen and senior citizen to local hero.
Mary-Jane Caldwell is well-known within the Mount Isa community for wearing many hats within sport, arts and charity groups.
She has been an active and passionate contributor within Mount Isa for over 25 years.
Before 2018 Mary-Jane quietly flew under the radar and admits she was embarrassed but incredibly honoured when she received the award.
Mary-Jane said there are a lot of ‘unsung heroes’ who do amazing work to make their communities great.
“They are the ones who are prepared to roll up their sleeves to help others out,” she said.
Mary-Jane said it’s these people who make Australia the ‘lucky country’.
Nominees are eligible for council awards in the area they live in.
