This 200km stretch of the Eyre Development Road contains four sections of dirt road totaling 70km in length.
This vehicle was travelling from Cairns to Adelaide by the shortest route…via Birdsville.
Ground temperatures were well over 45 degrees.
Two out of the three occupants of the vehicle had minor injuries and had to protect themselves from swarms of flies and the sun, by sheltering in a small tent.
The tourists were located approximately 45 minutes later by other travelers, which is extremely fortunate, as sometimes you could wait much longer before seeing another vehicle on this stretch of road.
Officer in Charge of Bedourie Police Station, Senior Constable Kurt Dunlop would like to remind travelers through these parts to carry plenty of water and snacks.
“Also consider carrying communication equipment such as an emergency position indicating radio beacon (EPIRB), Satellite phone or spot tracker,” Senior Constable Dunlop said.
“Please regularly keep in contact with family or friends and notify them of destination and expected arrival times.”
Drive safely!
