A team from Red Ridge Interior Queensland have completed the two week art project at the Mount Isa City Council owned water tank next to the city lookout.
Sunshine Coast artist David Houghton and two others did the artwork highlighting region's natural beauty.
Council "unveiled" the project on Friday evening though there was no veil large enough to cover the massive tank's surface area.
Nonetheless visitors were in awe at the vibrant colours which depicted local scenery such as brim and barra in Lake Moondarra and the Ranges teeming with local birdlife such as the varied lorikeet, the Kalkadoon grass wren and the black-shouldered kite.
Council said the artwork was the result of ideas from the community about what they wanted to see on the tank.
Mayor Joyce McCulloch said the mural was a long-awaited that has transformed the "ugly" water tank and has improved the lookout precinct
"We've got something now to offer not just to locals but tourists," Cr McCulloch said.
Deputy Mayor Phil Barwick said the mural was spectacular and had a positive impact around town already.
"We've got the Carrandotta Horses up now, we've got the mural done at the Family Fun Park, it's all part of our arts project brightening up the town and give it more liveability, and help mental health, it just makes it that more pleasant," Cr Barwick said.
The artwork is the first in a series of 'Trailblazing the West' project that will adorn water towers tanks with artwork across Outback Queensland which includes Richmond and Cloncurry.
Red Ridge Interior manager Louise Campbell they worked with the artists and the community to get the vision right.
"We get some draft plans together and we go back with some big boards until the community is happy, and then the artist gets their brief," Ms Campbell said.
"We hope Trailblazing the West becomes a cultural tourism trail."
Trailblazing the West is funded under the Year of Outback Tourism Events Program.
Mount Isa City Council contributed $7000 for the project as part of a beautification rive which has also seen it support the $10,000 Fun Park mural, backed with Regional Arts Development Fund money.
