The global growing trend of communal libraries has hit Mount Isa, thanks to local organisation Young People Ahead.

YPA manager Evan Ah Wing was watching Better Homes and Gardens before the football one night, when the episode featured street libraries.
From that moment Mr Ah Wing knew it would be a great addition for YPA and Mount Isa.
"After I saw it on TV I introduced it as a program and got to work with some of the adolescents," Mr Ah Wing said.
"The idea behind the street library is that you take a book and leave a book in return and is essentially an invitation to share the joys of reading with your community."
The street library officially opened on Wednesday October 22 at the Mount Isa YPA.
Mr Ah Wing said the street library would help people in the community with their literacy skills and build up confidence in reading and writing.
"All up it took just three weeks and we received help from the local men's shed," he said.
"YPA was happy to support other organisations while creating the street library."
