The operation will be conducted during Crime Prevention Week on November 15 to help identifying bikes with rightful owners moving forward.
The operation will be a free public event, where officers will be educating bicycle and scooter owners on the location of the unique identifying serial number, as well as discussing general bicycle safety.
Bicycle and scooter owners wishing to register details with police, will need to bring their property to be photographed on the day. Police will then link the bike details to the owner in the police database.
This will allow for stolen or lost property to be easily identified by police and returned to the owner at a much faster rate.
An engraving tool will be available on the day, to engrave a serial number or personal code, should there not already be a legible one on the property.
Thanks to the generosity of SportsPower Mount Isa and the Mount Isa Rotary Club of Mount Isa Inc, police have been able to purchase a number of bicycle locks, bells and helmets. The first 40 attendees will receive one of these prizes and there will also be a decorating station for those lucky enough to score a helmet.
This event will be held in the car park of the Youth Zone, Pioneer on Friday November 15, from 4pm - 6pm. Make sure you take advantage of this opportunity! See you there.
