A number of favourable conditions contributed to wide-spread showers in January, including an active monsoonal trough and tropical low and the passing of a surface trough.
The last 10 days of the month were easily the biggest with Mount Isa recording a monthly total of 191.6mm with the highest daily on January 26 with 90.4mm.
Cloncurry recorded 260mm, with almost half of that total falling on January 29 for the highest daily fall of 106mm.
Julia Creek received 220.4mm, with the highest daily fall recorded on January 31 recording 63.6mm.
Richmond recorded 228.1mm, with the biggest fall on January 25 with 78mm in the rain gauge.
Hughenden totalled 121.6mm for the month despite heavier falls up stream causing flash flooding in the shire. The largest fall was recorded on January 25 with 40.6mm.
Up towards the Gulf, Camooweal received 220.0mm for the month of January with their biggest shower on January 26 recording 141mm.
Burketown received 215.2mm for the month including 84mm on January 27.
Normanton received the most rain in the North West region recording 489.6mm for the month including 154.4mm on January 28.
Mornington Island had 387.4mm for the month including 64.2mm on January 8.
To the south, Urandangi recorded 73.4mm for the month including its biggest fall on January 25 of 34.2mm.
Boulia received 142mm including its biggest fall of 35.4mm on January 27 and Birdsville only received 17.6mm with the largest fall of 16.8mm on January 31.
Moving into February and the showers are predicted to continue, especially this week.
On Monday February 3, Mount Isa is predicted to have a medium (50 per cent) chance of a shower and thunderstorm in the afternoon and reach a top temperature of 35 degrees.
Tuesday, there is a high (70 per cent) chance of a thunderstorm resulting of up to 8mm; and a maximum temperature of 35 degrees.
Wednesday is forecast to have a medium chance of a shower and a top of 36 degrees.
Thursday could see 40 per cent of a shower and top of 36 degrees
Friday and Saturday have a 30 per cent chance of a shower and a top of 37 degrees.
Sunday only had a 20 per cent chance of rain and a top temperature of 38 degrees.
Lake Moondarra is currently sitting at 79.7 per cent and Lake Julius is at 100 per cent.
