Receiving daily updates from State and Commonwealth authorities, Council is distributing information to the community such as hygiene, prevention methods, how to identify symptoms and the best way to protect yourself and those around you.

Cloncurry Shire Council CEO David Bezuidenhout said, "we are monitoring the situation very closely."

"Public health is our main priority, with new measures aimed at softening the impact to our local economy. Council has a Business Continuity Plan with a specific focus on managing the incidence of COVID-19 and we are continuously updating the plan as new information becomes available."

Anne Schmidt from the Flinders Medical Centre is urging anyone who is experiencing flu like symptoms to seek medical assistance immediately. Ms Schmidt said,

"It's extremely important you make contact by ringing any health facility before arriving. If you've been overseas in the last 14 days, do not attend in person until you have spoken to staff, the staff will give you appropriate direction.

"If you have had no overseas travel or contact with a traveller, but you have flu like symptoms, please telephone the clinic. Staff will direct you to the 'Red' marked Upper Respiratory Infection area at the front of the Flinders complex. Please take a seat in the marked areas and wait for our clinical team to see you. Do not enter the clinic."
