Costas (Con) Michael passed away on October 30 aged 90 at Mount Isa hospital surrounded by family.
"(WE'd) like to thank everyone who has liked, commented, called, texted, visited and have travelled for the passing of a great man Con Michael," the family said on social media.
"We definitely felt the massive love we received."
Mr Michael was born in Cyprus on Christmas Day 1929 and lived in Mount Isa for 69 years.
The funeral for Mr Michael will be held on Wednesday November 4 at the Mount Isa Anglican Church but due to Covid19 restrictions they have filled the numbers for the church service.
However there will be a cemetery service around 1pm after the church service has ended and the general public are welcome to pay respects.
The family has asked that if you were going to send flowers could you instead give a donation to Kidney Health Australia.
"Dad was one of Mount Isa's much loved icons and once again we thank the city of Mount Isa for embracing my father as one of their own for his 69 year contribution," the family said.
