Council is asking Mount Isa residents to put forward their suggestions for where several additional closed-circuit television cameras should be located.

There are about 30 CCTV cameras installed throughout the city, with their placements determined following consultation conducted with Mount Isa Police officers to identify key "hotspot" locations.
Council recently received $100,000 in federal funding through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program which will be invested in between six to 12 new CCTV cameras throughout the city.
Council said the expansion would safeguard public spaces and infrastructure and discourage vandalism and other antisocial behaviour.
The four-way, all-in-one cameras will provide 24-hour surveillance and footage will be stored and accessed only by Mount Isa Police.
Mayor Danielle Slade said previous camera installation projects focused on the high-risk priority target areas.
"Because we have focused on these key locations in the past, we are now able to ask the community to determine whether there are any sites that may have been overlooked and that we can now focus on," Cr Slade said.
"CCTV cameras have been shown to be very effective in not just deterring criminal and anti-social behaviour, but also assisting local law-enforcement and criminal-investigation processes.
"We are asking that people who fill out the submission form also provide details and extra information about the location, such as what area the camera should capture, and why it's needed in that spot - for instance, have there been previous documented instances of anti-social behaviour there?"

Submissions will close on Monday, March 1, 2021.
