Police are investigating after emergency services received reports at 1.15pm of a white Toyota Hilux partially submerged in the flooded Malbon River, near Cloncurry Duchess Road on Thursday, February 15.
The driver of the vehicle, a 28-year-old from Townsville, was located inside and declared dead.
Investigations into the circumstances of the woman's death are ongoing.
A spokesperson of Incitec Pivot Fertiliser, a company with a manufacturing facility at Phosphate Hill about 160kms south of Mount Isa, confirmed the woman was an employee.
"Our thoughts are with our employee's family and friends at this very sad time. We have offered our employee's family ongoing support. We are also supporting our colleagues. We will continue to liaise with relevant authorities as required, including Queensland police," the spokesperson said.
The Indian High Commission in Canberra confirmed the woman is an Indian national, expressing condolences on the platform X, previously known as Twitter.
"Heartbreaking tragedy in Australia: an Indian national lost her life in a flooding incident near Mount Isa, Queensland. Deepest condolence to the family of the deceased. Mission team is in touch for all necessary assistance," the post said.
Queensland Police officers are appealing to anyone who may have seen the white Toyota Hilux travelling in the area within the past few days to come forward.
Witnesses or anyone with information that may assist with investigations are also urged to contact police.
