Ally Harris has been operating her florist on Miles Street for almost two years and said she has made a big investment in flowers for their busiest day of the year.
"We have to our order our flowers a month in advance for this one day and predict what people are going to want to buy," she said.
"I could have bought a small car with what I paid for this order of flowers."
Mrs Harris has five delivery drivers on the roads today bringing joy to women and men around the city.
She said the most popular order was for a dozen red roses, but arrangements factored into bigger, more elaborate plans for the evening.
"There have been some Mount Isa men coming in with big plans but I can't tell you what they are... I don't want to spoil any surprises," she said.
"Some guys have even been doing things since this Monday, finishing on Valentines Day today."
Mrs Harris said the logistics of ordering, selling and delivering thousands of flowers over one working day were all part of being a florist.
"Customers have been more organised with getting their orders in than last year so I think some guys got in trouble after getting in too late," she said.
"As soon as the order goes in we need to cross it off the list to make sure we don't double sell any flowers."
As for the spirit of the occasion, Mrs Harris said Mount Isa men have definitely stepped up to the plate for their partners this Valentines Day.
"It can really be a chore for some men but others really get into the romance of it," she said.
"I know one guy who is taking his partner out for dinner and wanted to have the roses on the table when they arrived.
" A lot of school boys have come in and ordered roses for their girlfriends at school too."
Her final message to the love bugs in Mount Isa was to keep an eye out for the delivery van - it could be coming your way today.
