Lothar Siebert is already mayor of the NT shire of West Arnhem, based at Gunbalanya (Oenpelli) 300km east of Darwin, but now he adds boss of Doomadgee shire to his resume.
Cr Siebert told The Australian newspaper the double-dipping did not break any rules.
“In the Territory, I’m pretty sure I’m allowed to do two (local government) jobs,” he said. “If it was the opposite way around and I took a CEO job (in the Territory while serving as a mayor in Queensland) then Queensland wouldn’t allow that.”
Cr Siebert was appointed to the Queensland role on the recommendation of Doomadgee mayor Edric Walden, after acting in the role briefly.
