The PCYC State Youth Leadership Program brought young people together at Bornhoffen Leadership Development Centre in the Gold Coast Hinterland.
The program has three different camps to develop leadership of self, others, and the community, said Olivia.
“It’s run by PCYC to sort of get the youth together, from all around Queensland, and make them into leaders,” Olivia said.
"Last year’s camp was about self leadership, and this one is starting to move on to leading with others.”
This is Olivia’s second time in the program after attending the camp in September 2016.
The Year 11 student said she enjoyed meeting with people her own age from diverse backgrounds across the state.
“Last time I went there were so many different sorts of kids – it was really good because coming from here, you’re sort of confined to the people here and to see what others are like is really cool.”
Olivia shows an impressive level of maturity in her own definition of leadership.
“I think good leadership is to make sure that everyone’s alright, that everyone’s having a fair go,” she said.
“You push people, but you push them to do their best.”
At 16, Olivia is already looking at a career in the defence force.
“That's why I find this so interesting, it sort of gives an insight into what it could be like in the defence force, which is really exciting.”
PCYC State Youth Leadership Program is open to young people aged 14 to 25 years old.
Spinifex State College congratulated Olivia on her acceptance into the program.
“We wish Olivia well as she heads off to meet new friends and learn new skills with other young people from across the state.”
