The pool has been closed since July 16 to undergo facility upgrades but plans to re-open were plagued first by major setbacks including the discovery of significant leaks requiring specialised repairs and structural work and then a substantial act of vandalism.
Mayor Joyce McCulloch said despite the setbacks, the project was on track and the site was a hive of activity every day.
“We’re really happy with the way things are going,” Cr McCulloch said.
“Its definitely a major project; for one of the city’s most important and well utilised facility.
Cr McCulloch said the pool had not had any significant upgrades in almost 20 years, and it showed.
“Even though it hasn’t gone the way we had hoped with the unexpected setbacks, it’ll end up being around three months of closure for a greatly improved facility, which will allow for an improved maintenance schedule and better general operations from now on,” she said.
