This statement follows the 24-hour stoppage by Aurizon traincrew across North West Queensland on Monday January 21, in response to stalled wage and condition negotiations.
An Aurizon spokesperson said they “received notices of Protected Industrial Action from rail unions including a 24-hour stoppage by traincrew at Mount Isa, Cloncurry and Hughenden depots.
“Traincrew based at Aurizon’s Stuart depot in Townsville did not undertake Protected Industrial Action, so rail services continued to run between Townsville and Hughenden.”
Aurizon said it was committed to reaching a new agreement that rewards employees for productivity improvements in the business.
“It is disappointing that unions have elected to take the unnecessary step of industrial action rather than continue to discuss proposals for a new Enterprise Agreement,” Aurizon spokesperson said.
