$53,000 surplus in Cloncurry's new budget

The budget will deliver a $53,000 surplus, which council said was the first of many surplus budgets projected over the next five years.

Mayor Greg Campbell said this doesn't happen by chance, and was the result of good, sensible financial management.

"As we recover from the biggest natural disaster this generation has seen, we're serving up a sense of purpose by maintaining our current assets and services to a high standard, investing in new infrastructure, supporting local events and making Cloncurry Shire a sustainable community that people are proud to live in," Cr Campbell said.

The council's direct capital works budget is in excess of $27,000,000, which tops up to approximately $50,000,000 when the potential flood damage capital works spend is included.

This program is approximately two-thirds funded by the State and Federal governments.

The huge capital works program includes $30,000,000 of flood damage, $5,649,319 Sewerage Treatment Plant, $3,633,162 Carl Katter Bridge, $2,063,618 Florence Clark Park, $4,967,388 Sheaffe Street stage 3 upgrade, $1,000,000 Main Well replacement and a new Water Treatment Plant in Dajarra.

Cr Campbell thanked council staff for the substantial amount of work getting the budget finalised.

"I look forward to seeing their efforts rewarded through superior service delivery and projects the community are proud of," he said.

"I also thank the Councillors for seeing the value in this budget.

"This term has positioned Cloncurry for a very strong and sustainable future."
