Sergeant Amit Singh and Remote Sergeant Aden Reeves have formed a Community Action Plan (CAP).
This plan consists of community driven initiatives to combat issues in the community and focuses on creating a traditional Elders council (TEC) to empower the Elders and bring about change making the community safe.
Police held a community meeting last Friday at Alpururrulam and the community members have said they want to work with police to stop alcohol coming in the community, stop street fighting and Elder abuse.
As a result of this meeting, police received information about local alcohol routes and were able to intercept five vehicles, seizing and destroying about 60 litres of alcohol destined for the Alpururrulam community.
Rainbow Gateway CEO Colin Saltmere was also at the meeting and has provided his support for this partnership and has promised to upgrade the Young Guns Football ground.
This plan is to improve the community so people can come back to their country to live and focus on improving social structure in the community.
Sergeant Singh also advised community members that if they are thinking of traveling to Mt Isa for the Rodeo then make sure their vehicle is registered, they have a drivers license and they respect the country they travelling to.
