Council are very excited to be delivering these projects to the community as many of them will go a long way towards not just ensuring public safety, but also making our city a better place in which to live.
The Isa Street Bridge is progressing very well, with the construction of the bridge itself now complete.
The new bridge will be almost a metre higher than the old one and will also be stronger and wider - this will boost its flood immunity by an impressive 75 percent, making the crossing a lot more convenient for motorists during wet seasons.
The project will now move to completing roadworks, including the construction of the roundabout at Fourth Ave.
We're also carrying out preliminary works (such as new footpaths) for a roundabout at the intersection of Mary and Camooweal Sts, which will be a boon for driver and pedestrian safety. We will then begin work on a roundabout on the intersection of Sunset Dr and Traders Way, which will allow for large road trains to safely navigate the intersection.
At the end of the month we will begin our city street resealing program. On top of this, asphalt work will be carried out early next year on Mack Cres, Hungerford St and Gatherer Cres which will vastly improve the surfaces of our city's roads.
We are in the planning stages for a sealed connector road from Wright Rd to Duchess Rd, ensuring a quicker way to get to and from the Healy Heights area.
Most of these projects have been funded by the State or Federal Governments, meaning little ratepayer money has been spent on making these projects a reality.
We have focused heavily on roads projects but have also recently done works at the Waste Management Facility, Water and Sewer Department, and the Animal Management Facility.
In September, we officially unveiled a wonderful mural that adorns the water tank at the City Lookout, made possible thanks to a Regional Arts Development Fund grant.
In the past month, we have also applied for State Government Building Our Regions funding for two projects - the Stage 2 upgrade of the Family Fun Precinct, and a Council solar-power initiative.
I thank each and every one of our Council staff who have been working so hard helping to make our city the best it can be.
