The heat stays this week, but the rain is unlikely

Temperatures are expected to rise to 41 degrees on Tuesday for a hot and partly cloudy day.

There is a slight (20%) chance of a shower and the chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon and evening.

It will be mostly sunny on Wednesday with a top of 40 but the chance of a shower dipping to 5%,

Thursday is expected to reach 39 degrees with a 10% chance of a shower.

Cloud cover later in the week will bring the temperatures down a fraction though the chance of rain remains around 10 to 20 percent.

Officially in the Mount Isa gauge at the airport we registered nothing on Thursday and only 0.6mm on Friday but there was a scattering of showers around on Thursday and Friday last week.

The rain started on Thursday around 4pm, in small doses at first but then heavier accompanied with some thunder and lightning.

And then it stopped again around 15-20 minutes later.

The rain also brought a quick cooling of temperature from a max of 41.5 degrees around 2.15pm to 29.9 barely two hours later.

Then on Friday around the same time a large storm front approached the city from the south-west delivering rain to outlying areas.

But just as it arrived around Mount Isa, the storm front split into two and went either side of the town meaning that the CBD and most suburbs missed out on a drink.

The Lake Julius capacity as at Friday 22 November 2019 is 77.9%.

In other centres, Cloncurry got 0.4mm on Sunday, Normanton got 3.2mm on Friday, Julia Creek got 10.0mm on Friday, Burketown got 10.4mm on Friday, Richmond got 0.2mm on Wednesday and 1.6mm on Thursday, Hughenden got 0.4mm on Sunday and Winton got 1.2mm on Friday.

Camooweal and Boulia missed out altogether.
