The State Member for Traeger Robbie Katter said he'd been eager to inject himself into the political game at a high level.
"Australian politics needs street fighters and we will continue that effort," Robbie Katter said.
"Under new leadership we will steam roll October's State Elections and come out in a position of influence."
Issues Mr Katter said they would press would be the building of the Bradfield Scheme, a rail line to the Galilee Basin and introducing relocation sentencing for youth offenders.
"The people of regional Queensland are demanding a new deal," he said.
Outgoing KAP leader and Federal Member for Kennedy, Bob Katter said it was time Robbie stepped up to the plate.
"To our enemies, this will free up time for me to go after your heads, and to ensure this nation is built the way it was meant to be built," Bob Katter said.
"A leader is not just the person at the helm, but the people that stand behind him."
Mr Katter said he had no plans to retire as the member for Kennedy and would contest the next election.
"I desperately need the time to get these dams built and to get at the throats of enemies - the free marketeers and the lily-pad left, and I simply can't do that while I have to do the leadership role," Mr Katter said
"I assure you, I ain't leaving the arena and I'm certainly not handing them my sword and shield over either."
