Eddie Lee used to run the IGA supermarket in Cloncurry and was a rugby league stalwart in town with the Cloncurry rugby league field named in his honour in 2016.
Wife Voney Lee spoke for her husband Eddie om that occasion and she said they were honoured the field was named for him.
"We miss the town and more so we miss the customers at our store," Voney said.
Eddie Lee was community-minded and made donations totalling over $1.8million to Cloncurry over the years
Eddie and Voney ran the supermarket for over four decades before retiring in Townsville.
Eddie was lifelong friends with Jimmy Clendinning who came to Cloncurry in 1967 and who worked for Eddie for 40 years before dying in 2010. Fittingly the Eddie Lee field kiosk is named for Jimmy.
His funeral will take place in Townsville on Wednesday 3pm at Morley's Funeral Home, The Lakes, 2 Martinez Ave, West End
