With nominations set to close on Monday, two candidates have so far thrown their hats in the ring: Lynda Alcorn and Frank Standfast.
The byelection was caused the resignation of Sandy Gillies in December.
Ms Gillies resigned to become the new CEO of the Western Queensland Primary Health Network, the commissioning body that funds primary health care services across Western Queensland.
"Cr Gillies has done a great job representing our Shire; both in the community and council meetings over the last nine months and I wish her good luck in her new role as CEO of WQPHN," Mayor Gavin Baskett said.
Though Council could have awarded the councillor spot to 2020 election runner-up Joel Mann, it resolved in its meeting December 10, to fill the vacancy through a by-election.
Election day is Saturday 6 February 2021.
Early voting will be available from Monday February 1 to Friday February 5.
