The assembly brings together over 20 local government areas of north west, west, and south west Queensland for three days under the auspices of RAPAD and the south west and north west Regional Organisation of Councils.
Richmond will be packed out with delegates from across the west and beyond from May 17-19.
The event will be held at Richmond Shire Hall and will have the theme of "Building Blocks for the Future".
It will begin Monday afternoon May 17, with town and technical tours for visitors to either Silver Hills Station (Agricultural Tour) or the Water Treatment Plant (Innovation Tour) and there will be a welcome function at Krionosaurus Korner that evening.
The plenary sessions begin on Tuesday May 18 opened by Richmond mayor John Wharton Regions and there will be a presentation by Liz Ritchie, CEO, Regional Australia Institute on the Rise called "Same Old Rhetoric or New Post COVID-19 Reality?" followed by a panel Discussion with Glenn Butcher state minister for Regional Development and Manufacturing and Minister for Water, Queensland Senator Susan McDonald, as well as Andrew Barger, QRC policy director and the three mayors who lead the regional groups: Cr Jack Bawden, Mayor, Carpentaria Shire Council and chair of NWQROC, Cr Tony Rayner, Mayor, Longreach Regional Council and chair of RAPAD and Cr Samantha O'Toole, Balonne Mayor and chair of SWQROC.
Over the following two days there will be sessions on "the Building Blocks to Remote and Regional Development" and they include road transport, air transport, digital connectivity, housing (which will feature Mount Isa Mayor Danielle Slade,and resilience (featuring Cloncurry mayor Greg Campbell. Regional Transport and Main Road directors will then discuss the Western Queensland priority roads network, before the session wraps up on Wednesday.
