An iPad, a Butterfly IQ subscription and associated accessories were donated last month to enhance services being provided at the clinic.
Butterfly IQ is a hand-held ultrasound device used on a smart device. This technology allows nursing staff to now have access to a bladder scanner and ultrasound for accessing veins.
With this technology there is less chance of infection for those with poor veins due to less attempts being made to access the veins. Additionally, in emergencies, poor vein access can be life threatening so this technology is a very welcomed addition to the clinic.
NWHHS Acting CE Dr Karen Murphy said the NWHHS were very grateful for the donation and the technology was a fantastic resource for the community.
"We are grateful to Gulf Bingo for their generous donation to the Karumba Health Clinic and know this technology will enhance the radiology services provided in the region," Dr Murphy said.
Former Director of Nursing at the Karumba Health Clinic, Hannah Rodwell, said the community donation has been wonderful.
"Having this technology means enhanced care right here in Karumba. It also means that some locals don't have to travel long distances to access radiology services for joint injections in Mount Isa," Hannah said.
The Butterfly IQ subscription also includes access to online training modules for staff to ensure they are using the device as efficiently and effectively as possible.
