Two workers at the Cloncurry Multifunctional Childcare Centre were stranded in Townsville by flooded roads, leaving the centre without adequate staff.
Cloncurry Shire Council community development officer Tricia Layt said council workers were trying to find qualified childcare workers to fill the gap until roads reopened.
Ms Layt said legislative requirements regarding childcare workers' qualifications made replacing staff at short notice difficult.
"They need to be certified supervisors," she said.
Ms Layt said the council, which owns the centre, was trying to find teachers available to work at the centre until the regular workers returned.
She said it was possible the council would be forced to close one of the centre's room temporarily if replacements were not found.
