The 22-year-old, who recently starred on The X Factor, will be in the city for two shows at the Overlander Hotel but has also agreed to support the relay by strutting his stuff on stage.
Johnston has been busy juggling “seven to eight shows” a week with recording duties.
He is set to release a new single next month called How am I to Know with an album to follow.
Johnston was eliminated from this year’s X Factor last month. It was his second reality TV show performance, and earned him a trip to New York.
He has travelled to Mount Isa to perform a couple of times before, and growing up on a far in New South Wales, he said the city reminded him of home.
While he would let his singing do the talking in Mount Isa, Johnston said Relay for life participants could also expect him to pump out a couple of laps at the Mount Isa Rugby Ground.
“I have some very close friends affected by cancer, so it’s a great cause,” he said.
“It’s a very community-based event, so I’m more than happy to support it.”
Relay for Life Mount Isa will be held on Saturday and Sunday at the Mount Isa Rugby Ground.
