Kate Gegg and Melissa Lane from the CSIRO recently guided Mount Isa State Special School students through fun experiments using natural materials.
As part of the school’s science curriculum focusing on the concept of change from liquid to solids, students worked with their guests tomix psyllium husk, water and red coloured dye in a sealed plastic bag to make a red slimy substance.
The students were amazed as they watched the water transform into a solid.
Many more types of slimy substances were created during the CSIRO visit using water saver crystals, PVA and cornflower.
Students experienced first-hand how the liquids changed to a solid and completed a checklist to describe the slime.
The CSIRO visit was a fun way for the students to study science.
