Isa Community Markets at the Overlander Hotel committee member Sandra Cambetis said every year stall owners are asked which organisations they would like to donate money towards.
Three organisations will receive the funding this year: RACQ NQ rescue helicopter, Royal Flying Doctors Service and the Palliative of Care Unit at Mount Isa Hospital.
“We charge a fee through stalls and drinks at the markets and once a year we donate to charity,” Mrs Cambetis said.
It is the third year a donation has been made to the RACQ NQ rescue helicopter and market organisers hope to continue donating to charities.
Royal Flying Doctors Service (RFDS) base manager Alan Twells said every donation helps with a Zoll Propaq MD monitor/defibrillator being donated by a former Mount Isa rodeo contestant in 2013 that is vital to their everyday work.
“It is through kind donations like the markets that keep us functioning,” he said.
“Some of the things the donation will be used for over the next five years are to buy five new aircrafts that cost $8 million each for Queensland.” Mr Twells said that the RFDS Mount Isa base attends to about 800 medical flights in the North West.
NQ RACQ Rescue Helicopter Business networking officer Stephanie Bithell thanked the ladies for their kind donation.
Markets are held on the third Sunday of every month at Overlander Hotel with around 30 stalls for more information contact Sandra Cambetis on 0421 673 500.
