Mount Isa used to have an Indigenous dancing group and now Shawn Major is trying to bring the tradition to life again.
Kalkadoon woman Roslyn Von Senden said they wanted to have a sustainable group in the community.
“We want to showcase with our kids the resilience of our culture.” Ms Von Senden said.
“We also want to show the wider community what we can do.”
Ms Von Senden said they had a group before they left town 10 years ago and wanted to create a new group that would be willing to do public performances at schools and civic engagements.
Boys and girls were shown how to do dance routines like impersonate animals and using props such as holding spears.
Every Sunday afternoon around 3.30pm Shawn will be down outside the back of Outback of Isa to show Indigenous children through the steps.
