The Mount Isa branch has committed to making 10,000 stars for the international One Million Stars project. It’s a peaceful way of protesting against violence. The project was started by Brisbane based woman Maryann Talia Pau in 2012, who was upset by the murder and rape of a woman in her local community.
The Mount Isa club began the project in the third quarter of last year but needs to have them finished and sent away in early July.
These stars will be part of an art display featured at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast.
The Mount Isa Zonta Club’s local project coordinator Cathy Warren said a classy community weave will be hosted by the Ibis Hotel between 5pm to 8pm on Thursday, February 16. Everybody was welcome.
It took four minutes to make a star of ribbon and newcomers would be shown how to make them.
Community weave events were also held at the Mount Isa City Library on Saturday mornings.
There is more information about the One Million Stars project on its website.
